Boys' and Men’s Health Collaborative 

History and Purpose

This interdisciplinary, intercampus group was launched in Fall 2024 by co-chairs Drs. Jon Gilgoff and Crystal DeVance-Wilson to support the health and well-being of boys and men through direct practice, student education, workforce development, policy, and community-engaged research. 

Expertise and Impact within Boys’ and Men’s Health 

The following are our areas of expertise, within which members have achieved a great deal. Through our collective impact, we aim to support boys, men, families and communities, in Maryland and beyond.

  • Academic achievement and positive youth development   

  • Black men’s health, resilience, and well-being 

  • Community and population health 

  • Community-engaged and data driven research practices 

  • Criminal legal system impacts, community safety, and policing    

  • Gender and culturally responsive practice and policy    

  • Health consequences of racism  

  • Health equity and social determinants of health 

  • Mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention, intervention, and recovery   

  • Positive father involvement and child neglect prevention  

  • Workforce development and workplace interventions
